GCC 61/10 (25.2 overs)
Saket Gur 4-17
Gohar Nazir 2-18
Sam Dooley 2-14
Hoboken won by 28 runs
On a mostly sunny and 21 C morning Hoboken lost the toss and was put to bat first - losing the toss didn’t matter. The innings started a bit shaky and remained so throughout. Had it not been for some valuable contributions by Chung (15), Hanoze (15), Bhaskar (20) and most importantly by the extras (27) we would have had some pretty serious total to defend (pun intended) as the Galacticos medium pacers hurled swinging grenades and blew the entire team at 89.
Hoboken was completely shaken up but the skipper’s pep talk pumped up the team and Hoboken’s pacers fared better.
Gohar and Saket started with what can be easily termed as one of the best opening bowling spells in WSL for Hoboken where the opposition scored only 13 runs in 6 overs and lost 4 of their top batsmen who have tormented other teams in this year’s competition. Gohar with his target out swing was practically unplayable and Saket provided amazing entertainment with some brilliant chin music.
Krishna and Sam then took the baton and continued the frustration for the opposition who had no answer to the drought that Hoboken had caused for them. The fielding unit was on the money, didn’t take any mid innings break and were all pumped to hit the last nail in the coffin at 61 in 26th over.
Galacticos was all wrapped up at a mere total of 61 with only 1 player scoring more than 10 runs.
Captains Note: In these tight games there is very little room for error, the focus and energy of all 11 hoboken fielders was sensational - a fantastic and selfless team effort for our club.
