Match report After 2 losses Hoboken CC registered their first win of the season in their opening league match versus Mad Dogs CC.Winning the toss and batting on what was dubbed a "pudding" like pitch after overnight rain,Hoboken managed 137 for 9 in 32.5 overs. After losing opener Birkett for 6, Thiyagarajan and Kuppan steadied the innings. Thiyagarajan eventually fell for 28 as Hoboken lost 3 more quick wickets with both Dempsey and Saheed caught to ill judged strokes and were stumbling at 51 for 5. Sengupta kept Kuppan company before falling for 4 but then a quickfire cameo from Karyat with 27 helped Hoboken to 137 with Mohamed Ali aka Sprinter returning to the side after a prolonged absence in fine form missing the exit in Connecticut by car and then left stranded not out on 6 on foot.
HCC took to the field with brilliant bowling and superb fielding. Karyat's catch to dismiss Quirk in the slips off Kuppan along with Thiyagarjan's 2 wickets both knocking over the timbers gave Hoboken the early breakthrough.Coward 4 caught at point by Kuppan,Wilson 21 caught by Birkett judging the catch brilliantly over his head. and Harrison and Moore bowled cheaply as Choudhry bowled a non stop spell taking 4 wickets for 21. Edge offered some resistance but was run-out by Maloney on his debut sending the ball quickly to skipper Dempsey on wicket keeping duty.A direct hit from Birkett aiming at one stump accounted for Preet and the Mad Dogs running disarray continued as Choudry's throw to Dempsey ended the innings at 109 off 28 overs.
This was Hoboken's 3rd win over Mad Dogs having defeated them in HCC's opening season in 2001 and then by 1 run in a 20/20 in 2005 in which they also suffered 3 run-outs.
