Hi All,
As our club continues its growth, now with four established teams and the new fifth team starting this season, we've been reflecting on how to best support the smooth operation of all our teams and ensure everyone has a fair number of opportunities to play. Building on a structure we've successfully used for the past two years, we're continuing with a slightly more defined approach to team composition. This means that each of our teams will have a dedicated pool of members from which they will primarily select their playing elevens.
We believe this approach offers several advantages including, i) A more streamlined team selection process ii) Defined member pools allows us to ensure that all members get equitable opportunities to play and contribute to the team. iii) This also allows a stronger sense of ownership and cohesion amongst the members of each team.
To bring everyone up to speed, we currently have four teams:
-
The Hurricanes and Falcons, who will continue to play at a competitive level, selecting their best eleven based on the specific opposition and playing conditions.
-
The Hawks will also play competitively, with a focus on providing all their members with a fair number of opportunities to participate.
-
The Dockers will play social cricket with the goal of ensuring every member of their squad gets a good chance to play.
-
We are excited to announce our fifth team, the Elysian, who will also be playing social cricket this season.
We want to emphasize that the team assignments you'll see below represent your primary team for the season. However, being part of a specific pool doesn't limit your opportunities within the wider club. Many of our members enjoy playing for two or even three different HCC teams throughout the season, depending on the team's needs and your own availability. We encourage this flexibility and the chance to play with different teams within the club.
We anticipate you might have some questions regarding these team assignments, and we are committed to addressing them with transparency. Should anything be unclear, we kindly ask that you first reach out to your respective team captains, who will be your primary point of contact. If you still have questions after speaking with your captain, please don't hesitate to contact our Vice President or President. Additionally, if you are a paid member and your name isn’t showing in any of the teams please reach out to any of the admins.
Ultimately, we are one club, and our growth to five teams is a testament to our welcoming and inclusive environment – something we all should cherish and foster.
We wish you all a very enjoyable and successful 2025 season.
Kind regards,
HCC
